FAQs

Go to device settings to set the clock style that you want.

  1. Say, "Go to settings," or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings .
  2. Select Clock & Theme, then select Clock Face.
  3. Select the option that you like, and select Done  to apply it.

Before you start, download or update the Alexa app in your mobile device's app store.

A few minutes after you plug in your Echo Spot for the first time, a QR code appears on the screen. Scan the QR code with your smart phone, and follow the guided device setup in the Alexa app.

During setup, on-screen prompts might ask you to:

  • Select a language.
  • Connect to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Log in to your Amazon account, or create an account, and register your device.
  • Confirm your address.
  • Confirm the location of your device.
  • Set a name for your device.

When the Echo Spot screen shows the clock, you can start using your device.

Note: If you don't want to use the QR code, you can set up your device in the Alexa app.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices .
  3. Select Add , then select Add Device.
  4. Select Amazon Echo.
  5. Select Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Pop and more.
  6. Follow the instructions in the app as described earlier.
Try saying, “Are you connected to the internet?” Alexa will provide network diagnostics for compatible Alexa-enabled devices.
Note: If your device loses its Internet connection and won't reconnect, first try to Restart Your Alexa Enabled Device. If that doesn't work, or if your device has intermittent connectivity issues, try the following steps to resolve most Wi-Fi issues:
  • Make sure that your Echo device is within 30 feet (or 10 meters) of your wireless router.
  • Check that your Echo device is away from any devices that cause interference (such as microwaves, baby monitors, or other electronic devices).
  • Check that your router is working. Check the connection with another device to determine if it’s an issue with your Echo device or with your network.
    • If other devices can't connect, restart your Internet router and/or modem. While your network hardware restarts, unplug the power adapter from your Echo device for 3 seconds, then plug it back in. Make sure that you're using the included power adapter for your Echo device.
    • If other devices are able to connect, check that you are using the correct Wi-Fi password. You can also try turning off some of your other devices temporarily to reduce interference and see if that affects your Echo device's ability to connect.
  • If you have several devices connected to your Wi-Fi network, turn some of them off temporarily. That way you can check if multiple connected devices are impacting your Echo device's ability to connect.
  • Check if your router has separate network names (also called SSID) for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. If you have separate network names, try moving your device from one network to the other.
    • For example, if your router has both "MyHome-2.4" and "MyHome-5" wireless networks. Disconnect from the network that you’re using (MyHome-2.4) and try to connect to the other one (MyHome-5).
  • If your Wi-Fi password recently changed, Update the Wi-Fi Settings for Your Echo Device or Update the Wi-Fi Settings on Your Echo Show.
  • If your device is still having intermittent connection issues, Reset Your Echo Device.
Tip: If you are experiencing connection issues on multiple devices, it might be a network issue. You can wait a few hours and try again in case of a network outage, or contact your Internet Service Provider.
  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices "".
  3. Select your device.
  4. Select Device Settings , then select Wake Word.
  5. Select a wake word, then select OK.

Tip: Changing the wake word only changes the wake word on the device you updated. You can set different wake words on your devices.

To change Alexa's voice, say "change your voice" or use the Alexa app to switch between different voice options.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices .
  3. Select the device you want.
  4. Select Device Settings , then select Alexa's Voice.
  5. Select the voice that you want Alexa to use.

Your Echo Spot can play any music, podcast, or audio sources that you've linked with Alexa.

Start and select your audio content by voice. You can say,

  • "Play [song / album / artist / playlist]."
  • "Play [station name]."
  • "Play [news source]."
  • "Play the latest episode of [podcast name]."

Controls on the Echo Spot screen let you pause, stop, or resume playback. You can also use voice commands to control playback.

Note: Echo Spot (2024 release) doesn't support video playback or streaming.

Before attempting a full device reset, try restarting the device first, as a reboot often resolves common issues. Unplug the power adapter, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect it. If restarting doesn't resolve the problem, proceed with the following reset procedure.

To reset your Echo Spot:

  1. Say, "Go to settings," or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings .
  2. Select Device Options.
  3. Select Factory Reset.
    1. To keep your Echo Spot's smart home connections like routines with smart devices, select Reset, but Retain Smart Home Device Connections.
    2. If there are no smart home connections, or to reset the device and erase all settings, select Reset to Factory Defaults.

When the reset finishes, the device screen shows the setup QR code. Scan it with your smart phone to start the guided device setup on the Alexa app.

If you would like to give your device as a gift or wish to register the device under a different account, you will need to deregister the device from your account.

To deregister your device:

  1. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and log in to your account.
  2. Click Devices.
  3. Select your device and click Deregister.

If you see a flashing yellow light on your Echo device, try the following steps:

  • Say, "What notifications do I have?"
  • Say, "What messages do I have?"
  • Update your notification settings in the Alexa app.
