If the charcoal doesn’t get hot enough, check the following:  

• Ensure the air vents are fully open during startup as blocked vents restrict oxygen and stops the charcoal from heating up to cooking temperature. 
• Ensure the ash catcher is empty before lighting. 

If the charcoal keeps going out during cooking, check the following: 

• Ensure the charcoal is stored in a dry place and not damp. 
• This can indicate insufficient airflow, ensure the vents are fully open on your product. 

• If your BBQ produces thick, bitter smoke, ensure the vents are not fully closed and that there is no grease buildup or left over food debris.

The time required for the charcoal to heat up can vary. Wait for the coals to be mostly covered in white ash before placing any food on the grill. This can usually take between 15-30 minutes.
