Method:
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat.
- Place the browned beef, kidney beans, crushed tomatoes, chopped onion, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper in the slow cooker.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
- Serve the chili with your favourite toppings.
Slow cooker beef and barley stew
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs (680g) beef stew meat, cubed
- 1 cup pearl barley, rinsed
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Method:
- Put beef stew meat, pearl barley, beef broth, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours until beef is tender and barley is done.
- Take out the bay leaf and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve the hot beef and barley soup, garnished with fresh parsley.

Creamy butternut squash soup
Ingredients:
- 1 medium-sized butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and diced
- 1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
