FAQs

Your skin may need a few weeks to get accustomed to this Philips system. We advise you to shave regularly (at least 3 times as week) with this shaver for a period of 3 weeks to allow your skin to adapt to the new shaver. Move the shaving heads over the skin, making circular movements. Shaving on a dry face gives the best results.
Remove the lid of the battery compartment. Remove the empty batteries. Place two batteries in the battery compartment. Note: Make sure the + and - indications on the batteries match the indications in the battery compartment. Note: The shaver does not work if the batteries have been placed incorrectly. Put the lid of the battery compartment back onto the appliance. First insert the top part of the lid and then press down the bottom part until you hear a click. The appliance runs on two R6 AA 1.5-volt batteries. Preferably use Philips alkaline batteries. Make sure that your hands are dry when you insert the batteries.
Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving results. As the shaver is not waterproof, you cannot clean the appliance under the tap. The easiest and way to clean the appliance is to clean the top of the shaver, the shaving unit and the hair chamber with the brush. We advise you to clean the shaving heads every two months.

No, your appliance is not waterproof. Please use the cleaning brush to clean the shaver and make sure you keep it away from water.

Two new R6 AA 1.5-volt alkaline batteries offer a shaving time of 60 minutes. Preferably use Philips batteries to achieve optimal shaving performance.

Take the shaving heads apart by pushing the sides of the central spring towards each other. Then lift the retaining frame out of the shaving unit. Slide the shaving heads out of the retaining frame. Do not mix up the cutters and the guards. This is essential since each cutter has been ground with its corresponding guard for optimal performance. If you accidentally mix up the sets, it could take several weeks before optimal shaving performance is restored. Clean each cutter and guard separately with the short-bristled side of the brush to remove the hairs. Slide the shaving heads back into the retaining frame and put the retaining frame back into the shaving unit.

The HQ4+ shaving heads fit this shaver. If these are not available, HQ56 shaving heads are also an option.

Yes, you can safely use an alcohol-based preshave lotion. Use of an alcohol-based preshave lotion may, however, affect the appearance of your shaver. The preshave lotion will not have any effect on the inside of the shaver or on its performance.

Note: If you use an alcohol-based preshave lotion, always wash your hands before you pick up the shaver. Spread the preshave over your beard. Allow the preshave to be absorbed by the beard hairs. Then shave as you are accustomed to. The purpose of alcohol-based preshaves is to dry out the hairs and make them stand upright so that they can be shaved off more easily. This shaver is not designed for shaving with other pre-shaves like creams, foams, gels or other cosmetic products.
