  • Make sure the Nest Mini is powered on and plugged in properly.
  • Make sure the microphone isn't muted. On the Nest Mini, there’s a mic mute switch on the side; toggle it so it’s on. The assistant will tell you whether it’s muted.
  • When you say “Okay Google” or “Hey Google,” check if the LED lights on top blink or spin. If they do, it’s detecting the hotword. 

If that doesn’t fix it, try the following:

  • Reboot the device - Unplug the power, wait ~10-30 seconds, plug back in.
  • Update firmware / Google Home app - Make sure the Nest Mini is running the latest firmware and your Google Home app is up to date. Sometimes bugs cause voice detection issues that are fixed in updates. (Digital Trends also mentions firmware / software bugs causing skipping, mis-recognition etc.)
  • Factory reset - If still unresponsive, reset the device to factory settings and re-set it up. This wipes all settings so it’s like new.
  • On Nest Mini: find the mic mute switch → turn off (LEDs should change to indicate mute). Then press and hold the top of the Mini for about 15 seconds until you hear a chime. The device will reset.
  • After reset, go through setup again via Google Home app.
  • Sometimes the Nest Mini disconnects from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth repeatedly. Check signal strength, router stability. Move closer to router.
  • For account unlinking: ensure the device is properly associated to your Google account and that the Home app is up to date. Some early bugs caused this; updates usually resolve it.
