FAQs

There may be a few reasons for the water drip:

1. Steam is used with a temperature that is too low (at the non steaming zone)

Refer to temperature dial  Turn the temperature dial to the steaming zone and let iron heat up in heel-rest position for one minute before you resume ironing.

2. Your iron produces a lot of steam. Steam could have condensed on the board cover, making it wet and cause water marks on your garment when the iron is pressed on it. Replace the ironing board cover if the foam material has worn out. You can also add an extra layer of felt material under the ironing board cover to prevent condensation on the ironing board. For the best solution, we recommend you to use Philips Easy 8 ironing board with Perfectflow cover (GC260) specially designed to avoid dripping on the board and floor.

3. If you stop the ironing for a while the supply hose will cool down and steam tends to condense in the hose, causing water droplets to escape from the soleplate. Hold the iron over a piece of rag and press the steam activator to start steaming, in order to clear all water droplets on the rag. After a short while, iron will resume to normal steaming for ironing.

4. It may also be related to the type of water you use. All Philips irons are suitable for tap water, but you can also use demineralized (distilled) water. Do not use perfumed water, water from a tumble dryer, rainwater, vinegar, mineral water, magnetically treated water (Aqua+), water from a drinking water filter, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids, salt or chemicals in the water tank. These types of water have been tested. They are not suitable and may even cause damage to the appliance. If you have been using any of the above-mentioned, please perform deep rinse cycle. Below is the instruction for deep rinse cycle:

1) Tilt the steam generator and pour 500ml tap water(better to use distilled water) into the opening. Reinsert the rinsing knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.

2) Set the temperature dial to “Min".

3) Ensure water tank is re-inserted (if detachable tank) and water level is above “Min” mark.

4) Press the on/off button and wait for 5 minutes.

5) Put a piece of thick cloth on your ironing board. Place your iron on the cloth, press and hold the steam trigger. While pressing the steam trigger, slowly move the iron back and forth across the cloth. Dirty water comes out of the soleplate. Continue until clean water comes out of the soleplate.

6) Switch off the steam generator and let it cool down for 2 hours.

7) Remove the rinsing knob and let the water flow into a cup. Reinsert the rinsing knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.

Too much scale and minerals have accumulated inside the

appliance. Descale the appliance regularly.

If scale builds up in soleplate, follow the instructions below to descale the soleplate.

1. Remove the plug from the wall socket.

2. Place the appliance on the edge of the tabletop.

3. Hold a cup (with a capacity of at least 350ml) under the

EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the knob anticlockwise.

4. Remove the EASY DE-CALC knob and let the water with scale

particles flow into the cup.

5. When no more water comes out of the appliance, reinsert the

EASY DE-CALC knob and turn it clockwise to fasten it.

6. Put the plug back into the earthed wall socket.

Switch off the appliance and let the appliance cool down for 2 hours. Unscrew the EASY DE-CALC knob and screw it back onto the appliance properly.

Note: Some water may escape when you remove the knob.

Contact an authorised Philips service centre for a new EASY DE-CALC knob.

This problem may be due to below 5 scenarios:

1. The appliance is not hot enough/ heat up to produce steam.

Solution: Wait until the ‘iron ready’ light on the iron lights up continuously.

2. There is not enough water in the water tank (the ‘water tank empty’ light flashes).

Solution: Fill the water tank.

3. The water tank is not placed in the appliance properly.

Solution: Slide the water tank back into the appliance firmly (‘click’).

4. You did not press the steam trigger.

Solution: Press the steam trigger and keep it pressed while you iron.

5. The appliance is not switched on.

Solution: Insert the plug in the wall socket and press the on/off button to switch on the appliance.

PerfectCare is safe on all garments. The shine or imprint is not permanent and will come off if you wash the garment. Avoid ironing over seams or folds or you can place a cotton cloth over the area to be ironed to avoid imprints at seams and folds.

Remark: If you still see seams and folds on your garments, we advise you to wash the garment again and iron one more time.

The pump is filling the boiler inside the base, it is normal. If the pumping sound continues non stop all the time, switch off the steam generator and remove the plug from the wall socket. Contact an authorised Philips service centre.

Please press the steam trigger more ofte & go on the normal or the turbo steam mode.

This problem may be due to 2 scenarios:

1. The safety auto off function has activated. This happens automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. The blue ‘iron ready’ light flashes to indicate that the appliance is now in the safety auto off mode.

Solution: To re-activate the appliance, press the steam trigger.

2. When the appliance is 10 mins in the auto off setting, it will turn off completely to save the energy.

Solution: To switch on again, press the power button.

When the DE-CALC light flashes, it's time to descale. For best results, you can do this as part of your regular ironing routine. Unplug and let it cool completely — at least 2 hours. Place the steam generator at the edge of a table or sink. Hold a cup (at least 350 ml) under the EASY DE-CALC knob. Remove the knob. Let the water and scale particles flow out. Put the knob back in place and turn clockwise to tighten. You are now ready to keep ironing!

1. There is no water in the tank

If there is no water in the water tank of your Philips Steam Iron, your iron is not able to generate steam. Please refill the water tank with water. After this, your iron should work again.

2. The iron is not readu to steam

In this case, wait until the orange ‘temperature indicator’ light switches off, then your iron is ready to produce steam.

Note: For the irons with OptimalTemp, the iron ready light will stay on when the iron is ready to produce steam.

3. The steam setting is set to "steam off"

If you have a Philips Steam Iron with a temperature dial, always make sure that the temperature dial is at the 2-dot, 3-dot or the LINEN position. Your Philips Iron does not produce steam when the temperature dial is at the 1-dot position, the SYNTH setting or in Calc-Clean. Tilt your iron up and select the steam setting with the steam slider on top of the handle

If your Philips Steam Iron stopped heating up, there can be several reasons. Please find out here how we can help you.

1. Auto-shut off mode

A light is blinking blue in your Philips Steam Generator Iron:

If your steam generator iron is switched on and the blue power light or the LED light on the handle is blinking but the soleplate stays cold, your steam generator iron might be in auto shut-off mode.

When your iron has not been used for 5 to 10 minutes, it enters in auto shut-off mode. To use it again, please press the on/off button.

The heating up light is flashing in your Philips Steam Iron:

If your steam iron is left unused horizontally for more than 30 seconds, or vertically (heel rest) for more than 8 minutes, it switches off automatically for safety reasons.

When this happens, the heating up light flashes. Move the iron to turn it on and it will start heating.

2. The temperature is not set up correctly

Please make sure to set the temperature to.the desired setting based on the ironable fabric you have.

After 2 to 3 minutes, the soleplate should be hot.

If wrinkles are not easy to remove, the garment may not be moist enough. Wet the garment slightly and adjust the temperature dial up to a hotter position.

3. There is a connection problem

lease check the mains cord, the plug and the wall socket. Make sure everything is properly connected.

4. Incorrect dual voltage setting

If your iron comes with dual voltage setting, make sure this is set according to your location (eg, 120V or 240V).

5. The iron does not switch on anymore

If this is the case, there might be an internal electric problem with your iron.

1. the temperature is set too low

For irons with a temperature dial, please set the temperature according to the fabric that you are ironing.

Note: For some fabrics such as silk, wool, cotton and linen, steam would be needed to remove creases more efficiently.

2. Steam is not used

For steam generators: Press and hold the steam button/trigger below the handle of your Philips Steam Generator continuously to generate steam. When you release the button, your iron will stop steaming.

For steam irons: You can get more steam by using a shot of steam (a boost of steam) to help remove tough wrinkles. Press the steam boost trigger of your iron to increase the steam rate.

1. the blue light is blinking

There are two different causes if you see a light blinking blue on your iron. Please follow one of the steps below based on the reaction of the light:

If there is a blue light blinking on the handle of your iron before you start ironing, this means your Philips Steam Generator Iron is heating up. When the iron has heated up, the light will stay on continuously.

Note: If the blue light keeps blinking for more than 5 minutes and none of the below mentioned situations apply, then your iron may have a defect. In this case, contact us for further assistance.

If the blue light is blinking on the handle or base of the iron in between use this means that you iron is at auto shut-off status. Depending on the model of your iron, please press the steam trigger again or the ON/OFF button to switch it back on.

2. The blue light is moving back and forth

If the blue light on your iron’s handle is moving back and forth while ironing, this is normal. It means that you are using the intelligent automatic steam mode. To exit this mode, press the 'intelligent automatic steam' button on top of the handle of your iron.

Note: This solution applies only to irons equipped with intelligent automatic steam mode.

3. PerfectCare Aqua and AquaPro models only

If the blue ‘iron ready’ light is flashing quickly in your Philips Steam Generator Iron, this means the water container is empty. Fill in the water container with water and press the steam trigger. Once the iron ready light turn steady blue, you can use your iron again.
